The Importance of Keyword Research

When I started this blog I just wrote about anything and hoped that no one has written about it yet. As a result I have a lot of misses and I also have a couple of pages landing on the first page of the SERP (Search Engine Results Page). I'm glad to receive thank you every once in a while and find that somebody found my post useful. But if you are planning to make monetary returns with your blog, don't do what I did. Because I found out eventually that the set of keywords I became successful with does not pay well at all. And only a very small set of people were looking for them. That is why it is important to do some keyword research first before you write an entry. You can use these free tools from Google: 1. https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal (Keyword Suggestion, Search Volume, CPC) 2. https://adwords.google.com/select/TrafficEstimatorSandbox (Keyword CPC, CTR, Search Volume) 3. http://google.com/insights/search/# (Search Trends) 4. http://www.google.com/sktool/# (Website Adword Campaign Suggestion) What you should look for are keywords that enough people are looking for, but only a few pages showing in the search result. You should also check how difficult it is to compete for your chosen keywords. There might be only a few pages showing in the results but if they are highly optimized, it will take a lot of effort to beat them. You can use this tools: 1. http://www.seologs.com/keyword-difficulty.html 2. Search Google using - intitle:”keyword”, inanchor:”keyword” inurl:”keyword”, intext:”keyword” – a. Above 50,000 is highly competitive. b. Above 10,000 is moderate c. Below 10,000 is low competition. d. Above 200,000 is when you turn around from that niche unless you’re a big company. 3. http://www.promocioning.com/tools/keyword-competition.php ( this one takes 3 – 4 minutes but is very good) I hope these tools help you in your own keyword research.
